How can I keep my refrigerator or freezer smelling fresh?

Freshness in your refrigerator or freezer can be affected by how food is stored. Some foods have a strong odor, so be sure to cover them tightly.

After you’ve checked how your food is stored, try cleaning the interior of your freezer with a sponge, warm water, and baking soda.

Some Electrolux refrigerator models have an air filter to help keep the air in your refrigerator as fresh as possible. If yours does, check the filter and be sure to replace your PureAdvantage™ air filter every six months.

Why does moisture collect on the inside of my refrigerator or freezer?

It is normal for the rate of frost buildup or “sweating” inside your refrigerator or freezer to increase when the weather is hot or humid. Other reasons you might see moisture inside your refrigerator or freezer can include:
• The doors aren’t completely closed.
• Warm air has entered after the doors have been opened frequently.
• Uncovered food containers or very warm food has been placed inside the refrigerator or freezer, causing condensation.
If moisture collects in refrigerator drawers, routinely clean out old fruits and vegetables. If your refrigerator has an adjustable humidity control, you can also try moving this to a lower setting.

What can I do if I’d like my freezer to be warmer/colder, but my refrigerator temperature is just right?

Simply set the freezer control to a warmer/colder setting, allowing 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. This won’t affect the temperature in your refrigerator.

Please note that it’s normal for your freezer to temporarily seem warmer if:
• You’ve recently placed large amounts of warm or hot food in it. Warmer items affect the freezer temperature; simply wait until it has had a chance to return to your selected setting.
• The door has been opened frequently. If warm air has been allowed in to the freezer, leave the door closed for awhile – the temperature will return to its desired setting.
• It has recently been disconnected for a period of time. After being reconnected, the freezer can take up to 24 hours to completely cool down again.

If my ice maker continuously makes ice, what should I do?

If your ice maker won’t stop making ice, it might be because its wire signal arm is being held down by an item in the freezer, or by ice cubes that have frozen together over the arm. If you see that this is the case, simply release the arm by moving the item or removing any ice cubes.

Why am I not getting water from my water dispenser?

If your water dispenser isn’t giving you any water, check the following:

• Be sure your water supply is connected to the refrigerator (see the Installation Instructions).
• Check that your household water line valve is open.
• Make sure that your freezer door is closed.
• Check the refrigerator’s ice and water filter cartridges, because they might be clogged. Replace the PureAdvantage™ filter cartridge if needed, pushing firmly until the filter snaps into place (you’ll hear a click when it’s back in place).

Why does my refrigerator seem to run too much, or for too long?

Your refrigerator might seem to run more than normal if:

• The room or outdoor temperature is hot. It's normal for the refrigerator to work harder, and run longer, under these conditions.
• You use the ice maker, which can cause the unit to run more.
• The door has been opened frequently. If warm air has been allowed in to the refrigerator, simply leave the door closed for awhile-the temperature will return to its desired setting.
• Your refrigerator doors need to be completely closed.
• Your refrigerator has recently been disconnected for a period of time. After it starts up again, it will work harder to cool down completely (which can take up to 12 hours).
To stabilize, set your freezer control to a warmer setting, until your refrigerator is at a comfortable setting, and allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize.

What are the differences between refrigerator styles?

French door models feature a two-door refrigerator on top and freezer drawer on the bottom. The lower freezer is a pull-out basket. Many French door models also offer filtered ice and water dispensers in the door.

Side-by-side models feature two doors; the freezer is on the left and the refrigerator is on the right. The simple, yet stylish design makes it easy to organize and find items. Often they have ice and water dispensers in the door, and they work well when you don’t have a lot of space for the door to swing open.

Top freezer models with the freezer on top are good for smaller kitchens, offering roomy storage on wide shelves and a lower cost of operation. The direction the door opens can often be reversed to meet your specific needs.

Is it normal to hear a popping or cracking sound when the freezer motor comes on?

Yes, this is normal. These sounds can be caused by the freezer’s metal parts as they expand and contract with temperature changes, or by the circulation of the refrigerant that’s used to cool the freezer. The sounds will fade or disappear entirely as your freezer continues to run.

How can I keep my ice from my ice maker tasting and smelling fresh?

To keep your ice tasting and smelling fresh:
• Cover your stored foods tightly. Odors in your freezer can be caused by how food is stored.

Why does the outside of my freezer feel warm?

It is normal for the outside freezer walls to be as much as 30ºF warmer than room temperature. This happens when the compressor is working to transfer heat from inside the freezer.

What should I do if my refrigerator door will not close?

If you’re having difficulty closing your refrigerator door:
• Check to be sure nothing is preventing the door from closing, as items hanging over the edge of a shelf or bin can cause an obstruction.
• Close both doors gently.
• Ensure the floor is level and solid, and can adequately support the refrigerator. Contact a carpenter to correct a sagging or sloping floor.

If my refrigerator’s compressor isn’t running, what should I do?

If the compressor isn’t running, it might simply be because your refrigerator is in defrost mode. This is normal and can last up to 30 minutes.

You can also check the following:
• Be sure that your cooling system is turned on.
• Be sure your refrigerator’s power cord is securely plugged into the outlet. Also, it is recommended that you not plug your refrigerator into a GFCI outlet (an outlet that has a “TEST” and “RESET” button).
• Consider replacing your circuit or fuse with a 15-amp time-delay fuse. A time-delay fuse accepts a momentary overload (as when the compressor cycle is on) for a short period of time without blowing.
• You may want to reset your circuit breaker.

What can I do if my ice dispenser appears to be jammed?

If your ice dispenser is blocked or jammed, try these steps:
• Infrequent use of the dispenser can result in ice cubes becoming stuck together and then getting stuck in the dispenser system. Check to see if any ice cubes are blocking the dispenser and remove any that might be.
• Remove the ice container from the freezer, allow it to thaw, and empty the contents. Clean the container, wipe it dry, and then put it back in the proper position. When new ice is made, your ice dispenser should work again.

Why am I not getting ice from my ice dispenser?

If no ice is coming out of your refrigerator’s ice dispenser, it might be because there is not enough ice in the ice maker. To make sure your freezer is producing enough ice:

• Be sure your water supply is connected to the refrigerator (see the Installation Instructions).
• Check that the ice maker is turned on. After ice is made, your dispenser should work.
• Turn your freezer control to a colder setting, so that ice will be made more quickly. After ice is made, your dispenser should work.
• If your refrigerator is equipped with a Fast Ice™ setting or a Fast Freeze™ button, you can turn on either of these features to help make ice more quickly.
• Open the water line valve. Allow enough time for ice to be made; when it has been made, the dispenser should work.
• Be sure that your freezer door is closed.
Note: If the ice dispenser’s paddle has been held in for four to five minutes, the motor will become overloaded. It will reset in approximately three minutes, after which you can get ice from the dispenser.

What is the difference between a counter-depth refrigerator and a standard- depth refrigerator?

Counter-depth refrigerators offer distinctive design and generous interior space, plus innovative storage solutions to keep food fresh and organized. The refrigerator’s cabinet is less deep, allowing the cabinet to be flush with your countertop for a built-in look.

Standard-depth refrigerators feature plenty of space for stocking up, with a stylish look both inside and out. They may be a few inches deeper than your cabinets and countertop, extending a bit further into your kitchen space than your counter does.
