By far one of my favorite parts of the holiday season is the get-togethers. The ambience, the great food, and having all my loved ones in one place makes the holidays feel like the holidays. It might seem counterintuitive, but hosting company really allows you to slow down, savor the season, and enjoy the little rituals that only come around once a year. With friends and family on the way, it’s amazing how relaxed and prepared you can be thanks to a few time-saving appliances and some picture perfect holiday touches. Not only will you feel the holiday spirit in full effect, but with the hard part out of the way, it’s the perfect opportunity to kick back and relax before company arrives.
Here are some last minute tips to help you prepare for holiday guests with ease.
Set the table ahead of time
When you have people coming over, whether it’s for dinner or overnight, chances are you’ll be spending a fair amount of time eating. By setting the table early, not only do you add to the festive atmosphere, but it makes it easy for guests to find what they need in the way of cups, plates and silverware. Add a place card so everyone knows where they will be sitting, and set appetizers and snacks nearby so guests can help themselves whenever they get hungry or thirsty.
Set out some self-serve punch
A well-crafted cocktail takes any gathering to the next level. But rather than drawing straws to see who will be playing bartender all night, I like to pre-mix a large batch of sangria or eggnog beforehand. Set out a large punch bowl on the buffet, along with some glasses and an ice bucket, and let guests serve themselves, which in turn allows you to spend time soaking in the company.
Incorporate festive traditions
Growing up, my mom, grandmother and I used to bake cookies every Christmas. Nowadays, I find that hosting guests is the perfect excuse to spend a little time in the kitchen baking. Not only do I get to make food ahead of time for my guests, but by turning on some music, firing up the oven, and surrounding myself with family, I can create fun traditions of my own. It’s the perfect way to slow down and leave the stress behind.
Do a little last minute tidying up
Time-saving appliances are essential when you have company coming over. I like to clean the house the week before guests arrive, leaving only last-minute touch ups for the day of. The Electrolux ProSwivel Vacuum was designed to make cleaning a breeze, so you can spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying the holidays. Use it to pick up crumbs, get rid of dust and pet hair, and clean hard to reach places in a jiff. And remember, be sure to change vacuum filters every three to six months so that the vacuum continues at optimum performance.
Set the ambiance
There’s something magical about candlelight and a roaring fire at a party. Light a fire about thirty minutes before guests arrive to set the mood for your get together. The warm glow will warm up your house and make your guests feel welcomed.
And last but not least, let the rest go and take a little time for yourself to really enjoy the spirit of the holidays. Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor before company arrives.
